Ukraine officially prohibits the sending of cash, travelers’ checks, personal checks,
credit cards, or passports via international mail. Customs officials regularly confiscate
these items as contraband.
Ukrainian customs officials also often enforce regulations concerning temporary
importation into or export from Ukraine for items including firearms, antiquities,
and currency.
If you have any questions regarding imports/exports, please contact the Embassy
of Ukraine in Washington or one of Ukraine’s US consulates for further information
regarding customs regulations and requirements.
As is common today across the globe, there are many counterfeit and pirated goods
that are widely available. However, any and all transactions of such items are illegal:
bringing them into or out of Ukraine will result in forfeitures and/or fines.
Ukraine’s laws require that travelers declare all cash and jewelry, regardless of
value, upon entering the country. Travelers must fill out a customs declaration
and ask a customs official to stamp it.
Foreigners may bring up to $10,000 in cash and up to $50,000 in travelers' checks
into Ukraine without a special license, however they must declare the cash or checks.
When customs officials find that a traveler is entering or exiting Ukraine with
undeclared cash, they often confiscate all of the undeclared funds. When leaving
Ukraine, foreigners may only bring with them up to $3,000 in cash (or up to the
amount they declared upon their entry.) If a traveler wants to take out more than
$3,000, he/she must obtain a customs declaration proving he/she brought the corresponding
sum of money into the country.
Travelers who want to bring more than $10,000 into Ukraine must obtain a special
license AFTER entering the country. Details on obtaining the special license are
available at the Embassy’s web site at:

Remember that customs officials often enforce strict rules regarding import/export
of valuables including firearms, religious objects, antiques, medications, business
equipment and many other items.
Always contact Ukraine’s Embassy in Washington, DC or one of its Consulates near
you for more information regarding customs.
